Northern Words is the place where I bring the different strands of my work together.
I broadly offer research and evaluation, facilitation, and learning and teaching, but a list of services would be restrictive. I’m interested in work that starts with a question: something that needs investigating properly, a subject a group needs space to think about, or an idea that needs researching and explaining clearly.
My strongest areas of knowledge are in organisational design and workplace culture; technology and digital practice; learning and education; culture and the humanities; neurodivergence and inclusion; and community and public services.
I'm interested in deep research and evidence-based reporting; evaluating projects; facilitating workshops or difficult conversations; designing and teaching courses; giving lectures; and helping groups think together.
Over time, I’d also like Northern Words to become a home for writing, conversations, gatherings and retreats. I’m interested in creating spaces where thoughtful people can spend time with interesting questions — sometimes practical and organisational, sometimes cultural or intellectual.
My autism and neurodivergence remain an important part of my work and perspective, and I continue to teach and advocate in this area. I'm always interested in opportunities to help make life easier for fellow neurodivergent people. I do this by supporting, training or making space for them directly, but also by helping those around them understand, accept and adapt their practice.
I’m comfortable working across both human and technical systems, and I'm particularly interested in how technology can support learning, connection and better ways of working.
I’m happiest when I’m learning about something intriguing, and gathering evidence, collating, analysing and reporting back. I am drawn to work that furthers our understanding of something useful, beautiful or helpful to humankind. I enjoy asking questions that challenge, inspire, or lead somewhere unexpected, and that help people understand things.
